Black Sand Beach - Playa Negrita

Although Vieques boasts a wide variety of beaches, one of the more unique gems is Playa Negrita (Black Sand Beach).  It is somewhat off the beaten path and doesn't get all the publicity of many of the other great beaches.  If you know how to find it, it's pretty easy to get to.  Just keep heading south on 201 to La Hueca, and the unmarked drive is 7/10 of a mile past the 996 cutoff toward Esperanza. You will know you are at the right spot because there is a huge boulder on the left side of the drive as you pull in.  Pull down to the bluff, walk down the hill to the beach and head east toward Esperanza.  It's about a half mile of easy walking to get to the black sand.  The only obstacle is a boulder about three feet high that you have to scramble over at one point.
