Beaches

Vieques is a major ecotourism destination, a tiny, sleepy, unspoiled island full of old world charm and dozens of stunningly pristine, mostly empty beaches.

Black Sand Beach - Playa Negrita

Although Vieques boasts a wide variety of beaches, one of the more unique gems is Playa Negrita (Black Sand Beach).  It is somewhat off the beaten path and doesn't get all the publicity of many o

Blue Beach - Bahia de la Chiva

Imagine a 1.5 mile long stretch of deserted sugar sand beach and warm turquoise Caribbean Sea.

Garcia Beach

The turn-off to Garcia Beach is found just as you get to Red Beach on the Old Camp Garcia Navy Base.

Glass Beach - Playa Cofi

Hidden along the north shore of Vieques is a beach that doesn't get discovered by many tourists, and that's a shame because it has some of the prettiest views on the island.

Green Beach - Punta Arenas

Green Beach is on the far western tip of Vieques, and gives the best view of the main island of Puerto Rico.

Gringo Beach

Situated on the north side just east of the airport on Rte 200 is Gringo Beach.  It doesn't get a lot of attention from the press but it is very scenic and maybe more importantly, very accessible

Media Luna Beach

Media Luna Beach is accessed via the beach at Sun Bay.  Just head to the left and you will run into Media Luna.  This beach is calm, shallow a long way out, and crystal clear.  It's like a gian

Navio Beach

Navio Beach is accessed through the Sun Bay park entrance.  Just head to the left (east) and follow the signs.  You will drive down the length of Sun Bay, and pass by Media Luna Beach on your way.

Playa Grande

Playa Grande is on the southwest side of Vieques, in La Hueca at the end of Rte 201. This is the place for beach-combing and going for long walks toward the end of the day.

Red Beach - Playa Caracas

Red Beach is the first beach you encounter when you head east onto the old Navy land through Garcia Gate.

Secret Beach

Although Secret Beach is not so "secret" these days, it still doesn't show up on most beach maps.

Sun Bay Beach (Sombe)

The beach at Sun Bay is the most popular and well know beach on Vieques. It's a long gently curved bay with very wide sandy beach and of course the warm waters of the Caribbean. This spot is popular with families because it has bathroom facilities and a space to shower off. If you get there early you can find a spot under one of the palm trees to set your chairs and blankets out.
